Clean Home Christmas Checklist for a holiday ready home by High Plains Flooring

Clean Home Christmas Checklist

The holiday season is just around the corner! Whether you’re expecting guests for Christmas or just want to enjoy a peaceful, stress-free season, there are a few simple steps you can take to refresh and organize your home.

The little things make a bigger impact than you think. From the living room to the kitchen, guest rooms, and bathrooms, even simple changes can go a long way. Most guests notice floors, blinds, shutters, ceiling fans, baseboards, furniture, and the overall ambience of your rooms. Based on our experience as a reliable flooring and blinds Showroom for over 20 years, we recommend our Clean Home Christmas Checklist to get your space ready for the holidays.

Living Room & Gathering Spaces

The living room is quite literally the centerpiece of any holiday. It should be a clean, inviting space that makes your guests feel welcome and puts everyone in a festive mood. Consider taking these steps:

  • Blinds, Baseboards & Ceiling Fans: Dust your blinds, baseboards, shades and ceiling fans to remove built-up dust and allergens from your space.
  • Floors: If you have hard surface floors like LVP or engineered hardwood, clean them with a Bona scrubber or floor cleaner to make them sparkle and feel fresh.
  • Furniture: Be sure to vacuum underneath your furniture and fluff throw pillows to make your space tidy and cozy.
  • Ambiance: Add warm-scented diffuser or candle in pine, cinnamon or cedar for a festive scent that makes your home feel inviting.

These simple touches are a great way to make your guests feel welcome. It also gets your space ready for the holidays.

Kitchen & Dining Room

Outside the living room, your kitchen and dining area see the most activity during the holidays. A clean, organized space is essential. That’s why you shouldn’t forget about the following:

  • Cabinets: Remember to wipe down the doors and clean the handles to remove fingerprints and smudges.
  • Sink, Dishwasher & Stovetop: Deep clean everything. When you’re entertaining your guests, your appliances should sparkle.
  • Floors: Porcelain Tiles are the favourite flooring for the Kitchen and Dining. Be sure to mop your floors and vacuum corners under cabinets to catch hidden dirt before it becomes an issue.
  • Dining Area: Before everyone sits down, protect your floors with a washable rug or mat to guard against spills.

A clean kitchen and dining space is essential to making a good impression on your guests. By keeping these areas looking their best, your home will feel fresh, festive and ready for guests.

Guest Rooms

If your friends or family are driving or flying in, they’ll need a place to rest their heads at night. That’s why you should make sure your guest rooms feel comfortable and welcoming. Here are our tips:

  • Beds: Wash the bedding before your guests arrive and vacuum under the beds to remove dust and allergens.
  • Nightstands: The nightstands should be clean and free of clutter. You can even add a welcome card or snack basket for a more personalized touch!
  • Rug: In a guest room, an area rug is the ideal flooring product. Place it beside or partially under the bed to add warmth and comfort. Your guests should feel like royalty when they stay.
  • Blinds or Curtains: Blinds and curtains are important for any room, but even more so when you have guests over. They allow for privacy and proper light control.

Follow these steps to create cozy, organized spaces for your guests. They will appreciate the time and effort you put in to make them feel at home.

Bathrooms

Nothing says “ready for the holidays” like a sparkling bathroom. You should clean your bathroom regularly, but it should be nearly spotless when you’re having company over. Focus on the following:

  • Tub, Shower, Sink & Toilet: When it comes to your fixtures, you should make sure they are free of soap scum and grime.
  • Towels: Have clean towels hanging in the bathroom and add an air freshener to make sure the space is comfortable and inviting.
  • Mirrors: Be sure to wipe down mirrors and other hardware in the bathroom to give your space a polished finish.
  • Bath Rug or Mat: When you add a clean rug or bath mat to your space and declutter counters, guests will notice the neat look.

A fresh, clean bathroom is everything! It’s an important part of making your home look holiday-ready.

Bonus: What to Clean vs. What to Hide

Not everything needs a deep clean. Some items can be hidden to maintain a tidy look throughout your home. We suggest the following:

  • Clean: Focus on areas that guests touch the most, such as handles, light switches and remote controls.
  • Hide: Gather unfolded laundry, storage and non-essential tech cords to avoid visual clutter.
  • Fast Fix: Use baskets or bins to collect clutter and store them in closed cabinets or closets for a polished finish.

Prioritize what guests will see and touch. It’s the best way to maintain a clean and welcoming space without feeling overwhelmed.
